SonyBMG [heart] Blogs
I’m currently at a conference by the Swedish film industry where people are desperately trying to understand what is going on in the world. Per Sundin, CEO of Sony BMG Sweden, who doesn’t have much new to say drops one piece of information that caught my ear when coming from a major:
Blogs are the most important marketing channel when breaking a new artist. Much more important than the traditional journalists. /…/ Today we break all our new artists on the net in cooperation with our digital partners.
Finally we see a hint of majors beginning to address the changes taking place in our new media world!
Furthermore, when asked about DRM, Per said (with a smile) he didn’t want to say anything “on the record” but that SonyBMG’s policy was still positive towards DRM but that some larger changes where in the pipeline.
By the way, as a side note, Per was kind enough to say that the labels are pretty sad that all your music bought from ITMS can only be played on your iPod and nothing else. So, he told us to contact him and SonyBMG and they would happily give us the music we have payed for in a format that would work on, say, my Nokia. Thought I’d pass that information along, so if you want your SonyBMG music to play on your choice of device – give Per a call and he’ll sort you out!
